My latest adventure has taken me to Washington D.C., for the Federalist Society's annual conference for chapter presidents. Unfortunately, I don't have time to linger and see the sights. But that's just as well because my camera's broken anyway.
The trip has nevertheless been great. Among the more interesting happenings, I listened to Clark Neilly--who argued Heller before the Supreme Court (he was also involved with Kelo)--talk about doing public interest work and some of the things he's working on now. He told us (facetiously) that he dreams of suing the Social Security Administration for mail fraud. Periodically they mail out statements saying what your expected payout is when you retire. But they aren't going to have the money to pay it out, and if any private company lied like that, people would definitely go to jail...
Then a few hours later I was at a party, shaking the hand of Justice Alito. I didn't get a picture, though. I'm not that fanatical (or maybe it's because my camera's broken?).
